I've really enjoyed learning Japanese with Sam. He's kind, patient, makes every lesson interesting and builds on from the last. Using Anki with vocabulary, not just for learning new words, but also for regular revision with Sam's own extremely awesome and well constructed cards really helps things stick. GEneral lesson flow
This is how most lessons are structured. However the structure of lessons is heavily catered to the students needs and personalised to suit their interests.
日常会話・Daily conversation
For roughly 5-15mins we’ll have a chat in Japanese to shake the rust off and talk about how things are going (or whatever topic you are interested in). The length and level of the conversation matches the students’ skill.
暗記カードの紹介・Flashcard review
You will be given a list of flashcards at the start of each lesson that you are expected to review daily. We will quickly run through the new words as well how they are used in context, as well as if there are any differences between the English definition and Japanese one. (E.g. Saying ‘with’ in Japanese are different words depending on the context).
文法訓練・Grammar drills
Although the bulk of your study should be immersing in your favourite Japanese media and learning new words, once a week we will go over grammar that acts as the key to unlock using the words that you learn through immersion and flashcards.
メディア分析・Media breakdown
For the last 10 mins or so we’ll breakdown a scene or episode from your favourite anime/manga/game. Even if your preferred media is far above your level, together we can break it down into the simple vocab and grammar patterns that we are studying.
試験の練習・Test practice
If your goals are more geared towards passing the JLPT or other test, instead of a media breakdown we can do some test practice using past tests and questions I have created. Words or grammar patterns that you don’t know or can’t remember will be repurposed into material for the next lesson!

STARTING LEVEL: ZERO - ONE
END GOAL: JLPT N5
IN THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL RECIEVE A COMPREHENSIVE BUT INTUITIVE SET OF VIDEOS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOCUSING ON THE JLPT N5 TEST, BUT ALSO ON HOW THOSE GRAMMAR POINTS AND VOCABULARY ARE USED IN THE REAL WORLD.
THE STANDARD TIME IT TAKES FOR STUDENTS TO PASS THE N5 WITH THIS COURSE IS ABOUT 6 MONTHS, WHICH CAN BE SHORTER OR LONGER DEPENDING ON THE STUDENT'S WORK ETHIC.
